Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

In response to the growth in popularity of bicycling, the Columbus-Phenix City Metropolitan Planning Organization has partnered with students from Auburn University to develop a mobile app that will crowd source data from bicyclists. The user-friendly app allows bicyclists to record their favorite routes, report obstacles such as potholes and missing bike lanes, as well as tag the locations of the closest bike racks. Using this data, the Planning Department will be able to assess where the greatest needs are for improvements to infrastructure and facilities. By seeing where people ride (and where they don’t), the Planning Department will be better able to communicate where weaknesses exist in connectivity, safety, and rider comfort levels. If you ride a bicycle for any reason, this is your chance to provide input on where you would like to see improvement.
